I respectfully say that medically supervised diets are not necessarily credible or valid or even safe. I say “not necessarily” because they may or may not be any better than any other diet just because they are recommended or even written by a doctor.
Doctors have for years espoused dietary opinions based on what was medically trendy at a given point in time, only to have this viewpoint challenged or refuted by new science.
Nutrition is not an extensively studied aspect of medical school and in fact, this is a polite way of saying that doctors are not well versed in this field.
This is not to say that a particular doctor doesn’t have expertise in diet and nutrition but this is not simply by virtue of having a d and a r in front of their name.
